‘Metamorphoses’ encompasses versatility in a utilitarian structure. It is a change or cause to change completely in form or nature. The ability for the look to change allows for over 8 different looks depending what the consumer chooses to wear, allowing for maximal function and need when it comes to what the consumer desires. My design acts as a tribute to Sacai’s concept of ‘hybridisation’ (Vogue, 2022) through clothes that ‘look different coming and going’.
Look 4 specifically from their Prefall 2022 collection highlights my main inspiration for the structure of a skirt, layered with multiple textures. To enhance the layering in my own design I created detachable belts for functionality, with one made from my own textile I had printed. The belt idea was drawn from Moncler’s 2017 Spring menswear collection, containing excessive pockets and quilted details. For the top I took an avant - grade approach to the tshirt project by turning it into a puffer jacket inspired by the Comme des garçons Fall 2022 collection. The jacket carries a versatility itself, offering 2 ways to be worn. By taking inspiration from Jacquemus Spring 2021 collection for the colour palette, I have drawn out colours that neutralises and brings a minimal sense to the maximalistic structure of the skirt, giving it better balance through contrast. Ideally, my consumer would be in Dover Street Markets, browsing the brands I drew inspiration from and viewing my own brand and concept. I would want the buyer of my product to be able to wear the skirt to work during the day for example and go out at night with the added pieces to suit their likes or needs. The target audience would be those interested in individual designer pieces that stand out but are still minimal through their choice of colour palette. Their age would be around 18-33 with their main focus being on how functional the outfit is suited to their lifestyle whilst making the garments ‘their own’.
